Three Wednesdays

February 14, 21st and 28th - Online

10:00AM - 12:00PM PT

Join local artist Katharine Dickinson and discover the art of capturing trees through an immersive series of drawing sessions. Develop a keen eye for different tree species' shapes, structures, and forms, refining your observational skills. Explore colour matching to depict these subjects accurately. Uncover the unique features that define specific tree species, enhancing both observation and artistic abilities across three engaging sessions.

This course offers essential observational drawing techniques through captivating exercises. Drawing inspiration from traditional botanical artworks and tree photographs, you'll build a strong foundation for rendering trees from life. Simplify concepts of foreshortening and perspective for tree trunks and branches, streamlining complex elements for mastery. Practical sessions involve live tree examples and exploring bark textures, twigs, leaves, and cones.

Student Testimonials

Katharine, I enjoyed yesterday’s class immensely because I’ve been wanting to learn how to draw cones for the longest time. The techniques you taught made cone drawing so much more approachable. I now understand the importance in trying to view the subjects in a geometric perspective as a key starting point in drawing.
— Natasha, Squamish
