Learn some tips and tricks for creating textures in landscapes.
Each week explore different watercolour techniques for the contrasting elements in your landscapes.
Surface textures and patterns
Practicing washes and wet-in-wet techniques
Dry brush
Layering with spattering and scraping
Using a palette knife or credit card edge for sharp textures
Sponge or natural brush for leaves.
Layered stippling for depth in foliage
Painting a complete landscape incorporating learned textures
Get inspired by master artists expressive methods achieving depth and atmosphere in their work visions of nature; sourced from Art Galleries, Museums and University Art collections online.
Suggested Art Supplies: Graphite pencil HB; watercolour paints helpful to include a six primary (warm/cool) colours + opaque white; Small sponge (natural if possible); Small 3”x2” pieces of cut card; Small palette knife or similar; Old toothbrush; Salt; Plastic wrap; Variety of brushes; Cold Press MEDIUM or ROUGH Watercolour Paper 300gm / 140lb
